In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives.

The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge.

With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago.

Hatred never dies

A unique, mind-bending debut from Emma Michaels; The Thirteenth Chime is an edge of the seat thriller woven together with a tragic love story. Emma does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. I was a little bit confused at first; I had a hard time understanding Destiny - but once she finally opens up, the pieces start to fall into place.

Emma waste no time getting to the plot, an unexplained accident happens in the first few pages - that will leave you searching for answers all the way till the end.

Destiny and Stephanie drive to upstate Washington to visit Steph's mom. She is in the process of remodeling a house and the girls want a vacation. During the remodel Leslie (Steph's mom) finds an old grandfather clock in the attic.  The first night is when the accident occurs and it leaves two women in the hospital.

Destiny, calls on her ex boyfriend for help. They have been having problems since their breakup - but he agrees to help her figure out what happen.  The next few days are spent trying to find out about the old house, the clock and work on their post break up relationship.

Could the clock really be possessed? Can David figure it all out, before their fate, ends up like the previous owners?

All in all I really enjoyed this book. I think it was a great debut, and I would definitely want to read more about this series. David has a very interesting thesis he is working on in school, that I would love to know more about.
