Book Review- Betrayal

Betrayal by Gillian Shields
Published by Harper Teen
Released August 3, 2010-TODAY
Source: Publisher

Synopsis (from Harper Teen)When Evie Johnson started at Wyldcliffe Abbey School for Young Ladies, her life changed in ways she couldn't possibly have envisioned: the discovery of her link with Lady Agnes, her special bond with Helen and Sarah, and their sisterhood in the astonishing secrets of the Mystic Way. Above all, Evie's love for Sebastian has turned her world upside down.

Now Evie returns to Wyldcliffe for another term and more danger. Surrounded by enemies, she lives every day in fear that Sebastian will fall into the darkness of servitude to the Unconquered Lords. The Wyldcliffe coven is plotting to destroy Evie and use Sebastian to secure their own immortality. Evie and her sisters must master the power of the Talisman before it is too late. But could it be Sebastian himself who will ultimately betray Evie?

Betrayal starts off a bit more fast paced than Immortal. Evie is returning to Wyldcliffe and even though she's afraid of what she might encounter there after the last term she is determined to go back and find Sebastian, whom she's still very much in love with. We get introduced to a new character, a younger girl named Harriett Templeton that seems to act really weird sometimes and has sudden mood swings. Evie feels sorry for her at times but also has a strong weird feeling she gets from her which she can't explain. As for the reader you really don't know what's really going on with this new character, you just feel as confused about her weirdness just as Evie does and it just keeps you guessing until the end.

We don't get to see much from Sebastian on this one, we only know what's going on with him from dreams that Evie has and a few of his diary entries in between the chapters. The few snippets that we get from him are still very sweet and romantic but it makes you wish there were more. The book focuses more on Evie and her friends getting used to their powers and trying to figure out a way to find Sebastian and save him from the Unconquered while at the same time keeping the Talisman safe from the Dark Sisters. I thought the plot dragged a little bit too long for me but if you loved Immortal I'm sure that you will enjoy Betrayal.

Firelight Book Trailer & Author Interview

Firelight is one of my favorite reads from this year (yes I realize I've got a growing number for favorites). I loved everything about Firelight as it's full of action, romance and more. You can read my book blurb here http://tinyurl.com/23plxbu

HarperTeen posted Firelight's book trailer yesterday

Firelight will be released on September 7th, 2010.

Synopsis:
A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide

Twitter Tuesday - Rebecca Maizel

I have to admit that I read the synopsis of Infinite Days and chuckled at the Biology midterm line. And that's what did it for me. I clicked over and pre-ordered it.

Synopsis (from goodreads.com)

Lenah Beaudonte is, in many ways, your average teen: the new girl at Wickham Boarding School, she struggles to fit in enough to survive and stand out enough to catch the eye of the golden-boy lacrosse captain. But Lenah also just happens to be a recovering five-hundred-year-old vampire queen. After centuries of terrorizing Europe, Lenah is able to realize the dream all vampires have -- to be human again. After performing a dangerous ritual to restore her humanity,Lenah entered a century-long hibernation, leaving behind the wicked coven she ruled over and the eternal love who has helped grant her deep-seated wish.

Until, that is, Lenah draws her first natural breath in centuries at Wickham and rediscovers a human life that bears little resemblance to the one she had known. As if suddenly becoming a teenager weren’t stressful enough, each passing hour brings Lenah closer to the moment when her abandoned coven will open the crypt where she should be sleeping and find her gone. As her borrowed days slip by, Lenah resolves to live her newfound life as fully as she can. But,to do so, she must answer ominous questions: Can an ex-vampire survive in an alien time and place? What can Lenah do to protect her new friends from the bloodthirsty menace about to descend upon them? And how is she ever going to pass her biology midterm?

Then I took a look at Vania's, from VLCPhoto, trailer and my pre-order decision was confirmed.

So if you're looking for a good twist on a vamp story, join me in reading Infinite Days. The release date is TODAY. And because I love nothing better than a deleted scene or a cookie, here's a special treat -- Rebecca released a Bonus Scene on her blog. In the mean time, I'm waiting for my UPS truck to swing by.
