Book Review - Two Way Street

Released June 26, 2007
Source: Bought
3.5 stars- I liked this book.

Synopsis (from Simon Pulse): This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation.

Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet. It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days.La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care.  But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.

Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

Jordan is a bit of a player, definitely not someone Courtney could ever see herself falling for, and this is one of those cases where opposites really do attract.  But things are never plain sailing as far as first love is concerned and their relationship is cut short by a secret that could destroy both of them.  Courtney is obviously heart broken and decides to use their road trip to college to find out what really happened with their relationship and get the answers to the questions she's too scared to ask.

This was the book that introduced me to how dual narrative can do wonders for a story.  I loved that the narrative switched between Courtney and Jordan, giving me as a reader more insight into them as characters.  Their voices were unique and fully formed and the dual narrative fleshed them out more and made me more invested in the story.  It also lets you see what they think and feel for each other, meaning you can enjoy the book more without worrying and constantly speculating their feelings and the meanings behind their actions.

Two Way Street was a lovely story about first love and how sometimes relationships aren't always easy, then can be hard, harder than you ever expected, and that love is something worth fighting for.

Cassie Clare News-TMI Series

Don't miss Cassie's post on her Live Journal site about her chat she had on Wednesday. If you missed the chat and haven't heard the exciting news, be sure to go here. She gives a recap of her exciting news about the next three books in the TMI series, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire.

She also has a quote from Publisher's Weekly here:

Simon & Schuster has signed books five and six in Cassandra Clare's bestselling YA series, The Mortal Instruments. S&S says there are more than three million copies of the series' three published titles in print. Clare launched The Mortal Instruments in 2007, with City of Bones, about a teenage demon slayer; City of Ashes and City of Glass followed. Book four, City of Fallen Angels, is scheduled for April 2011... The two new books under contract--City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire--are scheduled, respectively, for May 2012 and September 2013.

Cassie says:

"So,just to be absolutely clear: the Mortal Instruments is now a six-book series. I have made a pact with myself not to go beyond that number, but I understand if no one believes me. :) In the meantime, you can call it a saga, a series, a chronicle, or Six Things to Prop Up Your Table With. All I know is that I had a blast writing City of Fallen Angels and I can't wait to get to Lost Souls and Heavenly Fire — it's going to be an intense, dark journey for Jace, Clary, Simon and co. (not to mention a few new characters we meet along the way) and I hope people will be looking forward to reading them as much as I'm looking forward to writing them."
