I Am Number 4

Have you seen the movie tie in book for I Am Number 4!?! Seriously don't judge me, but I don't know how I missed it. Luckily Harper Teen Tweeted it today and thank you to Sophie, I have the link here so you can browse inside the book- http://ow.ly/3xBI1 and YOU can go PICK IT UP TODAY!!!

What do you guys think? We can't wait for this movie to be released. Be sure to visit the I Am Number Four Fan page here http://tinyurl.com/257u9hp

If case you haven't seen it, there's also a new movie trailer-

  1. I Am Number Four is the literary equivalent of cheap tennis shoes made by exploited child laborers in Bangladesh. This book was written solely as a ploy to get one man disgustingly rich from movies and merchandise. I really think anyone who cares about the future of YA literature should avoid this franchise (and anything else churned out of James Frey's YA fiction factory) like the plague.

I wrote a blog post about in case you're not familiar with I Am Number Four's sordid back story: http://stephanieoakes.blogspot.com/2010/11/ya-reader-and-writers-perspective-on.html

  2. Stephanie- Yes, we are very aware of the issues surrounding the book and have read all about it. We have read the book as well and this post was not just drawing attention to the book, but to the movie as well. It is not our intentions to make this a political post. This post is purely a fun post as we've had a lot of discussions about Alex P, who stares in the movie and on the movie tie in cover, to play Jace in the TMI movies.

Could James Frey have put this book together differently? Absolutely, but it's not just James Frey you're hurting by saying not to support this, it's also Harper Teen, and those associated with the movie. James has no say on the movie. Could he have treated those behind writing the book differently? Maybe, but those who are responsible for the story are adults and went to James knowing how he works. While we don't agree with how James operates, we do support Harper Teen.

  3. That's fine, I just wasn't sure if you knew. I ultimately think the real people injured by Frey's operation are the readers and the publishers (including Harper Teen). Because the background has been so insidiously hidden from readers, I try to inform people who may not otherwise know, especially those who, like you, have a vested interest in the future health of YA. I cannot disconnect the book from the movie because the movie was Frey's goal all along, the reason he ordered the book written--it will put millions of dollars in the pocket of a man who has no respect for YA readers. As much affection as I have for the stars of the movie (especially Diana Agron--I love her on Glee!), I can't imagine sitting through the movie knowing it's playing right into the hand of a man who cares nothing for his readers beyond the money they can throw at him.

  5. Despite not loving how the book came to be, I'm really excited for the movie. I love both Diana and Alex, and the movie just looks awesome. I'll be at the midnight showing. Probably be the only one, but I don't care. :-) Like I said, I don't like the history of the book, but I still plan on reading it. A good book is a good book. Thanks, MundieMoms for posting this! I think I may have to get the new copy because the cover is nifty.

  11. The controversy aside (and also noting that this book was in fact coauthored from what I understand) The book was amazing! I absolutely loved it, and am dying for the second book even though it does not come out until summer. I highly recommend the book especially if you enjoy the scifi side of things. I dont get too emotional over books but this one i really connected with and was nearly bawling by the end.

Im very excited for the movie, but im weary that because it started production prior to the books completion that it may not live up to the book. But from what ive seen of the trailers so far it looks good as a movie, and its definitely very hollywoodized (yes thats a word i swear :p ) By that i mean effects (which i love) but it seems fairly true to the story too.

Thanks for posting that trailer I've seen quite a few but somehow managed to miss that one, and I think its my favorite so far.

Really cant wait for the movie or The power of six, the next book :)
