The International Kissing Club: Guest Post with Ivy Adams

Today I'm excited to have the lovely Ivy Adams on the blog! She's stopping by to tell us a little bit about Paris, TX, one of the settings from her upcoming release, The International Kissing Club.

***********

First of all, I want to thank Mundie Moms for having us today— I love this blog and it’s so much fun to be guesting here

In the International Kissing Club, three of the girls travel to exotic locales on their school’s international exchange program. Piper goes to Paris, France, Mei goes to China and Cassidy goes to Australia. But Izzy (poor Izzy) ends up stuck at home in Paris, Texas, which is the locale Mundie Moms asked me to talk about today.

Emily, Shellee and Tracy (the authors that make up Ivy Adams) all live in Austin, Texas, but when we were looking for a place to set IKC, we wanted someplace smaller. Someplace with character but that had a small town feel. Paris seemed like the perfect place. A small town in North Texas, Paris has a culture all its own. But instead of boring you with all its history, I thought I’d give you a few fun facts instead.

Despite being a small town, Paris, Texas has been mentioned in literally hundreds of songs, books and movies, including a movie called Paris, Texas.

Paris, Texas has a giant Eiffel Tower replica near the city limits. It’s not the only Paris in the US with an Eiffel Tower, but it is the only one with a cowboy hat perched on top (the cowboy hat was added in 1998, when another town built an Eiffel Tower bigger than theirs)

Famed Texas (and US) politician, Sam Rayburn is from Paris, and they still give tours of his house, complete with original broadcasts that aired during and right after the bombing at Pearl Harbor.

American President Dwight Eisenhower was born only a few miles from Paris, Texas

In 1998, Paris was named “the best small town in Texas,” a distinction they are very proud of

So, tell me something interesting about the town or city you live in? If you leave a comment, you’re entered into the drawing for our daily, weekly and grand prize! Thanks so much for stopping by this Smooch Stop

Four Best Friends…
Piper, Cassidy, Mei and Izzy are the misfits of Paris, Texas. Too artsy, too determined, too smart and too hip to fit in with the rest of their classmates, they’ve spent most of their sixteen years determined to escape the stifling fishbowl of life in their small Texas town.

One Mean Girl…
Enter Germaine Stewart, mean girl extraordinaire and undisputed queen of Paris High School. Head cheerleader and girlfriend of the coolest guy in school, she’s made it her life’s mission to torture Piper and her friends…a mission that leads, among other things, to Piper kissing a pig in front of the entire school—in her underwear.

Ten Million YouTube Hits…
When the Kiss the Pig video hits YouTube and Facebook there’s nowhere in the entire state of Texas—or America—that Piper can hide. Desperate to escape the pig noises that follow her every waking moment, she becomes an exchange student to the real Paris. Only her friends can’t let her go alone and soon Piper, Mei and Cassidy are heading to different countries for the adventures of their lives, while Izzy is stuck at home.

The International Kissing Club Facebook Page…
To make their time abroad more interesting—the girls form the International Kissing Club, a Facebook fan page where they record each boy they kiss while abroad—or at home, in Izzy’s case (one point for a regular kiss, three for a “transcendent” one).

Too Many Kisses to Count…
But while each girl meets a guy who curls her toes, their twelve weeks on their own teach them a lot more about themselves and their friendship than they ever expected.

  4. I live in Arlington Texas and there is not much unique then there is adventures. For a town stuck between two bigger cities - we make do though
