WINGS by Aprilynne Pike: blogger fest!

So tomorrow is going to be a very busy day, as not only will be sleep deprived (and so proud of it) but we're also taking part in a really fun challenge for Aprilynne Pike's Wings. This challenge is hosted by Harper Teen and it's FREE! We'll have all the details posted in the morning. Aprilynne has a message she wanted to share with those who will be taking part in this challenge...

Mundane Monday #78

Happy Mundane Monday!! It's the day before CoFA is out and we can not wait to get this book in our hands. I know, it's getting old hearing us say it, but we are dying to get back into this fabulous world. Speaking of which, did you watch the video on EW's Shelf Life today? We get to meet Maureen and holy hotness Jace and Clary... watch it HERE.

Since tomorrow is CoFA release day, we wanted to share with you the last scene from City of Glass between Jace and Clary:

"Clary," Jace said, breaking her out of her reverie. He tightened his arms around her, and she raised her head; the crowed was cheering as the first of the rockets went up. "Look."

She looked as the fireworks exploded in a shower of sparks- sparks that painted the clouds overhead as they fell, one by one, in streaking lines of golden fire, like angels falling from the sky.

Don't forget, we've got our City of Fallen Angels Forum OPEN. Please note that we have two forums, one for BEFORE and one for AFTER you read it. The AFTER you read it forum is the place for all members to discuss spoilers and the book after they read it. That way no one gets spoiled in the other forum. We're looking forward to chatting about the book with everyone!

*You do need to be a registere member to make comments and it can take up to 48 hrs to be approved. With the COFA's released tomorrow we are going to try and get members approved quicker than normal*

Be sure to go visit Cassie's site HERE to see the NEW COFA TRAILER!!!

Interview with Cassandra Clare & Holly Black

To celebrate tomorrow's release of both Cassandra Clare's City of Fallen Angels and Holly Black's Red Glove, we thought it would be fun to interview both Cassie and Holly together.

Who's your favorite character from each other's books and why?

HOLLY: From COFA, I think my favorite character is probably Magnus. More and more as the series expands, I think we see different sides of Magnus and I think that's especially true in both CA and COFA.

CASSIE: I love Lila. She's badass. She's always breaking Cassel's heart one artery at a time. I enjoy that sort of thing.

What character from your favorite childhood book would you like to see in your own series?

HOLLY: This question really stumped me for a long time, because it seems cruel to transport some poor character into the Curse Workers world. But I have decided that I'd like to see Fflewddur Fflam from Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain show up with his magical harp -- the one whose strings break when he lies. It would be hilarious to see him let Barron touch that. Every string would snap in the first five seconds.

CASSIE: I guess I'd say the Wizard Howl from Howl's Moving Castle. I figure he and Magnus could have a fashion-off. Howl was always wearing sparkly robes and dying his hair.

What is something you admire about each other's writing?

HOLLY: I really admire how Cassie can go straight from making you laugh to breaking your heart. I admire the way she can handle a huge cast and make each one of their stories feel important. I admire how she can tell a great story -- then twist it and make it a greater story, then twist it again and make it even greater than that. But most of all, I admire that she's honestly not afraid to cause her characters great pain.

CASSIE: I admire Holly's economy of prose. I can go on and on for pages about something she can sum up in a paragraph. I also like how she can make you root for even the most evil of characters. And she never shys away from the tough stuff. She always goes for it.

If you were to pair a character from CoFA and a character from Red Glove, who would you pair up together and why?

HOLLY: I think Simon could show Daneca a nerdy good time.

CASSIE: If I didn't already ship Cassel/Lila, I think Isabelle could spin Cassel like a top and leave him lying by the side of the road, wondering what happened. Maybe with a note thanking him for a funky time.

What do you do to celebrate when you turn in your manuscript?

HOLLY: When I finished BLACK HEART, I celebrated by drinking a whole bunch of mezcal and workshopping someone else's novel. But usually, I grab some people and go get a nice dinner. Often that means showering and putting on normal people clothes for the first time in days.

CASSIE: Yeah, usually I celebrate with a nap. But then I'll go out to dinner or buy myself a celebratory pair of Fleuvogs.

Where is your favorite place to write at?

HOLLY: Mostly, sitting on my couch or on the huge leather chair in my office. But I've enjoyed writing retreats where I'm locked up in a very pretty place and forced to write a lot faster than usual.

CASSIE: Yes, anywhere that isn't at home. I love writing retreats in foreign places because you're away from all the humdrum distractions of daily life.

HOLLY: From her answer, you might guess who's been locking me up in pretty places.

What song, if you hear it right now, gets stuck in your head?

HOLLY: Right now, "A Lesson in Crime" by Tokyo Police Club is totally stuck in my head. But Cassie was playing "Wolves" by The Accidental and that got stuck in my head for so long that I finally had to buy it.

CASSIE: I've ahd "Fresh Blood" by the Eels stuck in my head for days.

Unicorns or Zombies and why?

HOLLY: Unicorns! Unicorns are profound symbols of hope. Plus they have swords on their heads! What could be better than that?

CASSIE: Zombies. Fast zombies, slow zombies, rich zombies, broke zombies, I like them all.

What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

HOLLY: Terrible television. Shamefully terrible television.

Cassie: Spaghetti-O's.

Favorite pair of shoes? (please feel free to send us a link or a picture to add)

HOLLY: My Fluevog Rococo ankle boots. I feel like a rock star in them.

CASSIE: Mine are also Fleuvogs.

The paisley, the whole Victorian ankle boot thing, rocks my world.
You both have the coolest shoes. Every time I've seen you guys on tour you're rocking a fabulous pair of drool worthy shoes. Not that I'm envious of your shoe collection or anything...lol

Where is your favorite place to read at and what's one book you'd recommend we go pick up?

HOLLY: My favorite place to read is in bed, curled up with a paperback. Obviously I don't have to recommend COFA, so I am going to recommend Libba Bray's BEAUTY QUEENS. It's the wickedly funny story of beauty pageant contestants crash landed on a (mostly) deserted island. If you've read LORD OF THE FLIES, these girls would eat those boys for breakfast.

CASSIE: My favorite place to read is on my sun porch, with my cats. I'd recommend Kenneth Oppel's THIS DARK ENDEAVOR as a cool new take on the Frankestein mythos.

Thank you so much for being with us today!

HOLLY: Thank you!
