4 stars- I enjoyed it

We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be Forgotten...

Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need- a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.

But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become--her mark on this earth, her very existence--is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.

Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny--no matter how dark the consequences.

This is a classic tale of good vs evil, light vs dark woven into an engaging story with strong supporting characters. I enjoyed the unique story telling, enticing mythology, and strong heroine, Charlotte. It's a story about sacrifice & love, and unlike like any angel book I've read before.

Charlotte is a character I emotionally connected and liked from the moment the book started. She's a strong character who's struggling with coming to terms with a secret she can't tell anyone, not even her boyfriend Harlin and best friend Sarah. It's this secret that causes her to give into the Need. The need to help strangers. It's not like Charlotte goes looking for them, but when she's summoned with the urge to go find the certain person in need of her guidance and help, she can't resist. Each time she gives into the Need she starts to fade, causing those around her to start to forget her. She's becoming a Forgotten.

Charlotte has some amazing people in her life, her hot, but down to earth boyfriend Harlin, her best friend Sarah, her foster mother Mercy and Monroe, a longtime family friend and doctor. I liked Monroe's role in Charlotte's life, he's the only other one who knows what's happening to her and he does all her can to help her. Charlotte is such a genuinely nice, caring character who loves everyone around her, it was heartbreaking to read what she goes through. I completely sympathized with what she was feeling and understood the choices she wanted to make. Each time she tries to fight the Need, it makes vulnerable to the shadows who want to consume her.

I thought A Need So Beautiful was a gripping, captivating read with a wonderful love story that I couldn't get enough of. The romance was realistic and one I'm sure many readers will find swoonworthy. I wouldn't be surprised if Harlin finds himself on a few all time favorite literally character lists. He's a well written supportive character. The story is heartbreaking and captivating and it left me wanting more. I can not wait to read the sequel. This is a read I'd recommend to older teens. There is some sensual scene and mild sexual context.

What YA book do you wish you had when you were a teen to read and why?

I was big into Stephen King in junior high and high school, so I would have loved The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan or Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves. It would have been cool to read a horror with female leads who were my age (I didn’t love Carrie by SK).

I also would have enjoyed the more realistic contemporary romances of recent books like Anna and the French Kiss as opposed to the Sweet Valley High series.

Good thing I can read these all now! My inner teenager is thankful.

Mundane Monday #87

The moment his hand closed about the stone, light blazed up from it again, raying out through his fingers. For the first time Tessa saw that he had a design on the back of his hand, drawn there as if in black, ink. It looked like an open eye. "As for the temperature of Hell, Miss Gray," he said, "let me give you a piece of advice. The handsome young fellow who's trying to rescue you from a hideous fate is never wrong. Not even if he says the sky is purple and made of hedgehogs."
