City of Fallen Angels Read A Long Day 20: Wrapping Up & COLS Predictions

Welcome to Day 20 of the City of Fallen Angels Read-A-Long, the last day of the read a long. THANK YOU to everyone who's taken part in the read a long over the past 20 days. It's been a lot of fun reading everyone's comments about COFA. For those of you who actively participated in the read a long I'll be putting your names in a bowl and will randomly pull out 1 winner to win a copy of COLS. The winner will be announced later today.

Today's discussion is about: COFA Wrap up & COLS Predictions

I loved this book! Even though I've read COFA a few times now, I still don't know how summarize my feelings over this book. There's so much that happens... I totally enjoyed it! I swear I pick up on something new each time I read it. One of the things I really liked about COFA is the way Cassie is able to mix in the humor and sarcasm that I love about this series, with the more heartbreaking and serious scenes. There's such a great mix of laugh out lines, and the moments that totally break your heart.
  • What was one of your favorite moments from COFA?
  • Which character surprised you in terms of how much they changed?
  • Which scene surprised you the most?
  • What's one thing you hope happens in COLS?
*Spoilers from COFA are being discussed in the comments of this post. If you've already read COLS, please DO NOT post any COLS spoilers here. You can discuss COLS spoilers in our COLS spoiler forum here

  1. I loved this book! :D The Read-a-Long has been so much fun. You have been a fantastic hostess!!!

There are so many wonderful scenes from COFA. To me, the most dramatic moment was when Clary slashed the red mark on Jace's chest. She was so brave during that entire scene, and I don't know how she was able to react so quickly.

I think Alec surprised me most. His take charge attitude and leadership at the end of the book is admirable!

What surprised me most was Izzy's admission as to why she is so guarded. Maryse should not have shared her marital problems with Izzy at such a young an impressionable age. But then again, I have to remember that Maryse was in the Circle, and they were all very and people in my opinion.

I would like to see more of Simon in the book. I want to see how he is coping with his situation, and I would like for him and Izzy to continue dating. I am afraid that if Cassie focuses too much on Clary and Jace that she will break them up! I have read on her forum how she defends Libba Bray's unhappy endings, so I am scared for Jace and Clary! I also want to know what is going to happen to Maureen. I had no idea that Cassie named that character after Maureen Johnson until I read her acknowledgements. Sorry...I know this is more than one thing, but I guess that if I could only pick one, it would be more of Simon and Izzy.

  2. * It's hard to pick one.... I love the Jace and Clary moments, the Simon and Jace moments, and the moments between Alec and Magnus.

    * Simon totally surprised me with how much he changed in this book. I've always liked Simon, but in COFA I felt like I finally adored him on the same level I've adored Jace on. I felt like he grew the most and I liked seeing him grow into a much stronger character than he was before.

    * I have to say one of the ending scenes did. I was shocked over the fact that the rune Clary had cut to break Lilith's hold on Jace fixed itself and that Sebastian was very much tied to Jace. I really thought that when Clary cut Jace's mark from her and severed the tie he would be okay.....

    * That the tie between Jace and Sebastian gets severed.

  3. So sad this read-a-long is finishing, it was so funny! :)
My favourite scene in CoFA was Clary and Jace scene after Simon's concert!I mean the hot scene, was something of incredible *w*
The character that surprised me the most was Alec, especially after the fight against Magnus. I also loved how Lizzie express her feelings a little more in this book.
I can't wait to see Jocelyn marriage in CoLS!!
I think that everyone is hoping that the bound between Jace and Sebastian will be destroyed by someone, somehow.

  4. *I don't think I could choose one favorite moment. I love the more touching scenes and I love the humorous scenes. I really liked to see the different times when the characters really just put themselves out there. Like when Izzy tell Simon why she is so guarded and when Alec gets jealous and his little moment with Clary. I just love the depth of all of the characters and seeing the different personalities they have.

*I know it's pretty obvious, but the end scene was really shocking to me. I think also the balcony scene was pretty shocking at least the first time reading it.

    *

*I think that really Simon changed the most, but I don't think it was surprising to me. I think that Izzy surprised me. She is just so used to hiding behind her tough exterior and I think it was surprising how much she let her true self show in this book.

*I hope in City of Lost Souls they are able to somehow break the bond between Jace and Sebastian, but I don't think it will happen. That would just be too easy and we know Cassie doesn't do easy. I think there is going to be a lot of emotional scenes in CoLS.

I totally agree with how much more you pick up when reading it for a second or third or however many times. There are always the things you didn't put much thought into the time before and it just seems to make sense when you read it again. I love these read a longs. Thank you so much for doing them.

  5. *My favorite scenes were all the ones between Jace, Simon and Jordan. I just love their bromance. It was so funny how Jace and Jordan ended up ganging up on Simon. At the same time, though, I feel like there is a friendship growing between Simon and Jace.

*I think Simon surprised me the most. It was interesting to see him adjust (or not) to his life as a Daylighter.

*The ending completely surprised me. I thought we were done with Sebastian! Ahh!!

*As for what I hope will happen in City of Lost Souls...I actually wrote a whole blog post about it on my blog. You can see it here: http://julie999.blogspot.com/2012/05/city-of-lost-souls-predictions.html

Thanks for hosting this read-along! I had a lot of fun. It's so nice to talk about the books more in-depth.

  6. One of my favorite moments from CoFA was Clary fighting the demon in the church. She has definitely come a long way since finding out she was a shadowhunter. Clary has always been brave but now she can totally kick butt.
Simon has changed the most for me and not because he became a vampire but because he has grown up. He now has the confidence to take care of himself and deal with his own issues. Simon is definitely more tough now.
There were so many scenes that were shocking but I think the biggest thing was Johnathan binding his self to Jace. For now we are completely stuck with Johnathan but at the same time I hope he learns to embrace is human side.
I really hope that Jace can catch a break for more than two seconds. I hope that there will be more Magnus and Alec in CoLS, I have definitely missed them. There is so much I want to happen and I am so excited that CoLS is almost here. Once again we should get an epic story.

  7. *I can't choose one favorite scenes! I loved the steamy kiss that Jace and Clary shared... I really liked Jace and Simon moments...

*I think that Alec matured and changed alot. I liked that.

    *The ending really surprised me!

*I hope in City of Lost Souls they will somehow break the bond between Jace and Sebastian... I would like to see alot more Jace and Clary sexy moments...

Thank you for hosting this read-along! it was so much fun! :D

  8. Well, first, I feel really bad that I got behind a lot on this read along. I am in high school and am closing in on standardized testing and exams and AP tests. I also want to say that I love your site and how you do so much for the fans. My friend and her mom and I read the books together and that’s how I was introduced to here and haven’t stopped coming back.

ANYWAY….to the book. I loved the last few chapters the most. The big battle was one of my favorite scenes and also the Alec/Clary scene. I don’t know why. I just think it was a really important scene to include between the crazy battle and the shadowhunters showing up.
A character that surprised me would have been Alec. While he was affected by what Camille said, and face it, who wouldn’t be, he really seemed to be above it. He loved Magnus enough that he got petty angry but got over it. Also, the way he was with Jace, so brotherly and caring, really struck me as adult. He doesn’t seem to be the angry, jealous, semi-jerk that he was back in CoB. That’s also a really long time to grow. He has lost some of his family and almost lost a lot more of it. I like him now though.
I think I was most surprised by the last scene. The Jace/Jonathin thing. I wasn’t a fan of it and didn’t see it coming. It was really cool to be surprised like that. I read a lot of mysteries so I know how to read clues to see things coming. Cassie really threw me their though.
I don’t know what I hope to see in Lost Souls. Maybe Jace will turn into a Chicken Salad Sandwich (if you read Cassie’s tumblr then you will get this!) or maybe Jonathin will burn down the world. No really. I have read a few spoilers from Cassie and one of them says “Did you hear about Luke?” and then continues on and mentions how Jocelyn looks ragged and tired and upset. That made me think maybe Luke is hurt or dying. So in City of Lost Souls, I really hope Luke doesn’t die. Or Alec (especially not after what I said! I like him.) Or Maia. Or Jocelyn. Or Magnus. I think that’s all of my favorite character. So yeah.

    Anyway.
    BYE!!!!

    1. This made me laugh- partially because of the chicken sandwich thing, and partially because of the AP tests thing (I totally doodled TMI fan stuff on the environmental science test book this morning!!)

  9. My favorite part of COFA was finally getting to hear Jace and Clary profess their love for on another.
My favorite character the grew and changed was Simon. You get to see him get some self esteem, and become a giving person. The kind of person you would give anything for because he would do anything for you.
The scene that surprised me the most was Lilith trying to bring Sebastian back, I mean really how crazy is that. It was also surprising to see all the characters pull together to defeat her and keep Sebastian dead.
What I hope to see in COLS is this, Clary and Jace able to have their relationship with out interruptions. I would also like Magnus and Alec, and Izzy and Simon be on their way with good relationships as well. Because everybody loves to be in love and to read about love. Although I am sure that there will be plenty of peril and strife in this book, I can't wait to read it and to see what the future holds for all of these characters.

  10. i cant really choose a fave part but i would say my fave moment in CoLS was the park scene where jace was teaching clary how to fight and he told her he loved her. izzy really surprised me. i really loved how we got read about her bonding moments with clary and her kind caring side with simon. and what came as a big shocker to me was the ending. that was something i did NOT predict. i hope in CoLS they find out how to break the bond that jace has to lilith and sebastian. i really loved this book i cried and laughed and i cant wait for CoLS!!

  11. I can't really decide on a favorite part, maybe when Clary, Jace and Simon are facing off Lilith.

    No one really surprised me.

The only scene that surprised me was at the very end, when Jonathan was brought back to life fully. I did not expect that though it does make sense.

My only hope is that we learn something about either the Infernal Devices series or characters in the upcoming Dark Artifices series. :D

  12. My favorite scenes were the ones with Simon, Jace, and Jordan. They made me smile :)
I definitely think Alec surprised me the most when he showed how much he has matured since CoG. I loved getting to see this whole new dimension to him. I also think that Clary, Simon, and Izzy changed a lot for the better. Getting to know Maia was also cool.
The most surprising scene was the last one. It totally came out of the blue. I'm really hopin that in CoLS, we get more Simon/Izzy and that we figure out if it's even possible to save Jace (because if you hurt Seb, you hurt him, too). I'm just excited in general to see what happens next- with every book it's like Cassie Clare just adds a new layer to each and every character.

  13. I think Alec changed the most. He really made me laugh over his behavor. But I think he is starting to get it. I just want Jace and Clary to be happy and be together. I want Jonathan gone. I really love this book series along with ID series. I can't wait for tomorrow.

  14. One of my favorite favorite moments was when Magnus and Alec had their scene where Alec didn't talk to Magnus in the party but Magnus insisted to Alec I just loved that moment.

I think Simon was one of the characters that changed drastically, cause knowing he is a vampire he was trying his best to adapt, Alec and Izzy changed too got closer to Clary, I didn't see change in Clary maybe somewhat of a change.

Well when Maia kissed Jordan I was like I thought she wasn't gonna like you know be with him again and Izzy the same with Simon, women say they wont do something but yet her actions say somethijg else. Who understands them of course men are the same.

I want more MALEC!!!!!! I really loved the couple scenes they had, and I also want more of Maia and Jordan. I would also like for the rest of the Downworlders to have more appearances.

    Good Night everyone=)

  15. Re-reading this book, it's hard to choose just one thing. I think what I loved was the devotion from Jace for Clary. He's trying so hard to protect her - I know he makes bad choices about that but his heart is on protecting her. I love that.

As for CoLS - I just want my Jace back. I'm not sure that will happen in this but I am hoping by the end of the series that we get him back.
