The Iron Trial Series is Announced

Today is chock full of Cassie news and I think this may be the frosting on the cake:
Scholastic Acquires Five-Book Middle Grade Series by Bestselling Authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

New York, NY — April 19, 2012 — Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, has acquired North American rights to a five-book middle grade fantasy series by bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare; the first full-length collaboration between the authors. The first book in the series, The Iron Trial, is planned for release in 2014. The deal was negotiated by Barry Goldblatt from Barry Goldblatt Literary (for Holly Black), Russell Galen from Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency, Inc. (for Cassandra Clare), and David Levithan, VP/Publisher and Editorial Director at Scholastic.

"Millions of readers have already been enthralled by the worlds that Holly Black and Cassandra Clare have created in their own books," said David Levithan. “Now that they’re combining forces, it's even more magical. This series is going to be one for the ages, and I am honored and thrilled to be publishing it."

"This project is the culmination of years of work and brainstorming with Holly," said Cassandra Clare. "She’s someone I've always wanted to write with, and I can’t express how proud we are of the story we’ve created, or how excited we are to work with Scholastic and David. And we can’t wait for people to read it, of course!"

"We’re so excited to be working on this series with David Levithan and everyone at Scholastic," added Holly Black. "From the moment it crossed his desk, he totally got it. He’s been the perfect reader for the books and we know he’s going to be the perfect editor too."

In this exciting new series, twelve-year-old Callum Hunt has grown up knowing three rules by heart. Never trust a magician. Never pass a test a magician gives you. And never let a magician take you to the Magisterium. Callum is about to break all the rules. And when he does, his life will change in ways he can’t possibly imagine.

And then this news posted on MTV.com -- yes, movie rights have been sold to the Iron Trial series.
"I feel incredibly lucky to be working with Constantin on a second project," Cassie told Hollywood Crush via email. "They really get stuff done and they really include me. I'm so excited they loved the story. And Holly would say she's thrilled to have had such a huge response from the publishing and entertainment communities to the project, and she can't wait to see it as a film. We promised each other if it got optioned we'd get matching tattoos so no backing out now!"
Tattoos of runes or something even more magical? Also, I can hardly wait for my third grade daughter to come home so I can share the news with her. I have a feeling that she and my first grade daughter are going to have to fight me for the rights to read this first. Okay, who am I kidding, I'll buy multiple copies, of course.

A Clockwork Angel Extra: Why Will Hates Ducks

Cassie posted this on her tumblr earlier today and all I can really say is that only Cassie could make a story that you, at first, think may be funny turn out touching and bittersweet instead. *sighs* It's SO GOOD.

Here's the beginning:
Takes place at the beginning of Chapter Nine of Clockwork Angel, “The Conclave”:

Will kicked his heels impatiently against the legs of the library table. If Charlotte were there, she would have told him to stop damaging the furniture, though half the furniture in the library already bore the marks of years of abuse — chips in the pillars where he and Jem had been practicing swordplay outside the training room, scuffed shoe-prints on the windowseats where he’d sat for hours reading. Books with turned-down pages and broken spines, fingerprints on the walls.

Of course if Charlotte were there, they wouldn’t be doing what they were currently doing, either, which was watching Tessa Change form from herself to Camille and back again. Jem sat beside Will on the library table, occasionally calling out encouragement or advice. Will, leaning back on his hands with an apple he had stolen from the kitchen beside him, was pretending to be barely paying attention.

But paying attention he was. Tessa was pacing up and down the room, her hands clenched at her sides in concentration. It was fascinating to watch her Change: there was a ripple, as of the smooth water of a pond disturbed by a thrown pebble, and her dark hair would thread through with blond, her body curving and changing in such a way that Will found it impossible to pull his eyes away. It was not usually considered polite to stare at a lady in such a direct way, and yet he was glad of the chance . . .

The remainder of the story is posted here on Cassie's webpage. Who else wants all these extras/deleted scenes/alternate POVs in a seperate volume? I know I'd love to see them on my shelf.

The Immortal Rules Blog Tour: Guest Post & Giveaway

I'm thrilled to be the next stop on Harlequin Teen's The Immortal Rules Blog Tour. Today's post is: "Life as a Registered Human in the Inner City"

The secret goal of almost every Fringer is to someday make it into the Inner City, past the wall that separates the civilized world from the human trash, into the glittering city that looms over us with its great starry towers that had some- how resisted crumbling into dust. Everyone knows someone who knows someone who was taken into the city, a brilliant mind or a great beauty, someone too unique or special to be left here with us animals. There are rumors that the vampires “breed” the humans on the inside, raising the children to be their thralls, completely devoted to their masters. But since none who are Taken into the city ever come out again—except the pets and their guards, and they aren’t talking—no one knows what it’s really like.

Of course, this only feeds the stories.

You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to the fringe, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.

City of Fallen Angels Read -A- Long: Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the City of Fallen Angels Read-A-Long. You can follow the entire read-a-long and find each of the day's posts here. Remember there's no right or wrong way to participate. Your comments can be as long or a short as you'd like them to be. You can answer one or each of the questions asked, it's totally up to you, BUT, in order to be entered into the COLS giveaway (which you also had to sign up to win), you do need to be actively participating in the read-a-long.

Today's discussion is about: Chapter 2: FALLING
  • I really like this chapter. Not only do we get to see some great moments between Jace and Clary, but a few of the other Shadowhunters are mentioned as well. I liked that we find out Magnus and Alec were off traveling together, we see how overly protecting Jocelyn is with Clary, and we read a bit more about Simon & Izzy. Back to Jace and Clary, leave it up to Izzy to walk in, in the middle of another fabulous Jace and Clary moment. She interrupted their alley way scene and now the training room scene. Do you think she does this on purpose? I'm not saying that in a bad way. I think she just doesn't care.
  • I LOVE YOU's were said!!!! I'm sure I'm not the only that freaked out over that and had a huge grin on my face. Do you think Jace and Clary will finally catch a break and be able to enjoy spending time together?
  • If you'd rather not answer those questions, what are your over all thoughts about this chapter?

Please DO NOT POST SPOILERS. There's some fans who are joining the read-a-long who are reading COFA for the first time.
