Fanart Update: Cassandra Jean's Young Circle and CoHF Artwork

Clary Talking to Emma in CoHF by Cassandra Jean

Cassie posted the latest Cassandra Jean artwork updates and WOW, are they gorgeous! The top illustration was Cassie's birthday present. Here's what Cassie had to say on her tumblr:
My birthday present from Cassandra JP — a scene from City of Heavenly Fire! Clary with little 12-year-old Emma.
And then the gorgeous artwork below is Luke! Check out the name of the cafe:

Young Circle art: Luke at Seraph Bakes Cafe.

Young Circle Art! Luke (TMI written by @CassieClare) Luke waiting for someone at the cafe Seraph Bakes in Idris? @TMIScotland came up with the cafe name and I thought it was brilliant. Anyway, random doodle. I can’t bring myself to draw anything more serious today, kinda fuzzy-headed.

MOTOCROSS ME by Cheyanne Young, Blog Tour / Guest Post

Welcome to today's stop in the MOTOCROSS ME blog tour. I'm thrilled to have author Cheyanne Young on the blog today to talk about:

10 Things a Girl Must Know Before Getting into Motocross

  1. You can't be afraid to get dirty. I mean, real dirty. Like dirt in your nostrils and under your eyelids dirty.
  2. The protective Motocross gear comes in SUPER cute styles. Mine is pink with butterflies. It's fun to choose gear that makes you stand out from the boys on the track.
  3. Motocross boots feel like they weigh a hundred pounds. This is fine when you're riding, but if you fall over and get stuck in mud – have fun crawling out.
  4. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Experienced riders know which lines to take on the track, when to go high or low in a turn, and other tricks you've never heard of. Ask them, and they'll be happy to help you.
  5. Speaking of—everyone at the motocross track is a big family. With the exception of a few losers, people are really nice and love helping each other out. When you're here, you're family.
  6. Never wear rings (or any jewelry for that matter) when riding. I've known someone whose bike fell on top of her & squished her ring so badly she lost her finger.
  7. Hit the gym. Motocross is an extreme sport that requires strength and endurance. You don't have to be fit to ride, but it sure makes it a lot more fun.
  8. Your pit crew is essential. Bikes need maintenance and unless you're a mechanic, you'll need some good people in your pit. I had my dad and my sister, who is way tougher than I'll ever be. Remember that motocross is a family sport, so get your family involved!
  9. Never ride alone. Always have someone with you to pick your muddy, tired butt off the ground, to start your bike when you're too tired to, or to carry you back to the truck if you get hurt.
  10. Don't be a princess. Motocross is for tough chicks. Even if you're there to check out the hot guys, make sure you can handle the heat, the sweat, the dirt and long hours in the sun. Guys don't want a princess and you're way too awesome to act like one.
About The Book:

When Hana Fisher moves to the small town of Mixon, Texas to live with her dad, she dreads having to work at the boring pile of dirt he fondly calls a motocross track. But when she gets there, she finds the rinky-dink dirt bike track from her childhood has grown into the most respected racing track in the state.

Now popular by association, Hana endures the pain and sweat of working in the summer heat in order to fit in with a sport she’s growing to love. She gets a real family, a best friend and not just one, but two of the fastest racers trying to win her heart.

When Hana abuses her status as the track owner’s daughter to help the gorgeous Ryan Russo cheat in the biggest race of the year, she risks more than just losing her job. Every good thing in her life is at stake now- her friends, her dad’s trust, and Ash Carter- the kind-hearted racer who may not be as alluring as Ryan, but is proof that nice guys don’t always finish last.

Twitter Tuesday: Holly Black #DollBones Twitter Chat

One of our good friends, Aly over on Kid Lit Frenzy, will be hosting a twitter chat with Holly Black on Thursday, August 15th at 8 p.m. EST.  The chat will be all about Holly's fantastic middle grade book, Doll Bones.

You all know how much Mundie Moms love Holly's stories, and the chance to share them with our children only increases our fangirl factor. My ten-year-old daughter and I decided to read Doll Bones out loud, so that we could both enjoy it at the same time. What an experience! We read about two to three chapters at a time and finished the book in well under a week. There were nights where we decided that it's best not to read it right before going to bed because the story is just the right balance of friendship and quests and creepy-dolls-your-mom-buys-in-thrift-stores. We would have these wonderful discussions about "what do you think is really happening?" and "what do you think will happen next?". And in my opinion, only the very best stories inspire those thoughts. Look for our review on Mundie Kids soon, and our Doll Bones blog tour stop next month here on Mundie Moms, but in the mean time, pick it up so you can read it in time for the #DollBones chat.

This book is an absolute classic. I can't stop talking about it and neither can my tween. In fact, while we were at the beach this past Sunday, we sold it to two of our friends who bought it right there on the spot. Thank goodness for e-readers and smartphones. Our friends started reading it immediately, forgetting about the beach and the lake only a few feet away. And my daughter and I may have read over their shoulders and laughed at their reactions.

Yes, it's that good. We both promise you, it's THAT good.

City of Bones Read A Long: Chapter 11 MANGUS BANE

Welcome to today's City of Bones Read A Long stop #11. Now through August 12, myself (Mundie Moms), TMI SourcePage to Premiere, and Fangirlish are hosting a City of Bones read-along to prepare us for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which will be in theaters August 21.

Today's chapter of discussion,  Chapter 11 MAGNUS BANE! There is a lot that happens in this chapter, and it's more of the little details than the big ones that caught my attention. For instance, I loved how observant Clary is. After just returning from the City of Bones, Jace and Clary stop for a bite to eat and Alec, Izzy and Simon join them. While there, Clary mental notes the differences between Alec and Jace. Later on when Izzy helps Clary get ready to attend Magnus's party, she asks Izzy if Alec is gay. What I loved about this scene is we see how protective of her brother Izzy is. We also get an idea of what it's like for Alec being a gay shadowhunter, since it's not something shadowhunters want to talk about.

Along with Clary, we also learn more a little more about The Circle, and The Accords. In a picture Clary finds she sees her Mother with Valentine, Luke, Hodges and Jace's father, Michael Wayland, and The Lightwoods. There's something odd that always struck me about reading this chapter, which later on in the series I learn why. Why would Hodge tell Clary not to show Jace a photo that has his father in it.

I LOVE the moments between Jace and Clary. First his comments about her journal not featuring any pictures of him, than his offer to tell her a bedtime story to put her to sleep. Though this bed time story is totally heartbreaking, we're given a glimpse into who the real Jace is. What he was raised to be like. I found it interesting to see the differences between Jace and Clary here. She feels his story is awful, and Jace looks at it more as a necessity to be raised the way he was.

I don't know about you guys, but I would love to have Izzy give me a make over. haha I love the make over she gives Clary for Magnus's party. More specifically I love the reaction both Simon and Jace have over her make over. Ah Simon! Ever the protective best friend, who's not too fond of her wearing a shirt, tight fitting dress. Then there's Jace. One of my ALL time favorite Jace and Clary moments happens in this chapter, and that's when he takes the pins out of her hair, so her hair falls down around her neck. *sigh* It's so unexpected of Jace to do that, and yet at the same time I felt like I was getting a peek into something totally private between the two of them.
