NaNoWriMo Advice from YA Authors

It's NaNoWriMo time!
I love this time of year. I always get all pumped up when NaNoWriMo time rolls around. I look forward to the chance to finally sit down and work on the stories I started years ago.  But then right before I get the courage to finally do it, I chicken out. I don't know why, but I do. It's not that I'm scared to write. I've been "secretly" doing that for a few years now. When it comes to sitting down and writing under a deadline, I mentally think that it won't be good enough. Or I have the excuse of the millions of others things I need to be doing instead of sitting down and writing.

I admire my friends who each November set the goal to do NaNoWriMo  and do it. One of these years I'll finally do it, and sadly this was another year that I let get away from me with out taking part in it. If you're like me, than you'll love this advice from some of Epic Reads's fabulous authors. They recently shared NaNoWriMo Advice from YA Authors. I'd recommend reading the entire article.

Epic Reads's NaNoWriMo Advice from YA Authors

From Victoria Aveyard
“This is very cliche advice, but that’s because it’s true and it works. Finish the draft. But I need to rewrite act 1! Finish the draft. But this character arc needs to change? Finish the draft. But I need to draw another map! Finish. The. Draft. Power through your mistakes, write notes to yourself, leave scenes that aren’t working, and just get to ‘the end.’ All the stuff that tripped you up will seem so small in hindsight, and by the time you finish, the distance will let you see so many solutions you didn’t know were there before. It’s extremely hard to finish, but makes everything easier once you do.”

From Cynthia Hand
“I’m a big believer in the 3 b’s for writing inspiration: the bed, the bath, and the bus. Whenever the words aren’t coming, I lay down quietly for a while, or I take a bath (I usually keep a notebook and pencil next to the tub to write on if inspiration strikes), or I take a ride/drive–somewhere peaceful with not too much traffic (I keep one of those audio recorders that reporters use hanging from my rearview mirror and will talk my book into it). The goal is to relax the body so the mind can open up.”

From Lauren Oliver:
“Writing is like pizza. Cold pizza, good pizza, bad pizza…it’s better than no pizza! So remember: bad writing is better than no writing. :) ”

From Courtney C. Stevens
“A group of rhinos is called a crash. Why? Because of their powerful potential. Rhinos run thirty miles an hour and can only see thirty feet in front of them. Nano-ers, I say, BE THE CRASH. Run hard. Run fast. Run in a group. Your potential is a powerful thing. May you harness the motivation of this month and transform your high word counts into awesome stories in the days ahead.”

I love this advice! Thank you Epic Reads!
