It’s been almost a year since Makani Young came to live with her grandmother in landlocked Nebraska, and she’s still adjusting to her new life. And still haunted by her past in Hawaii.

Then, one by one, the students of her small town high school begin to die in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, Makani will be forced to confront her own dark secrets.

Stephanie Perkins, bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss, returns with a fresh take on the classic teen slasher story that’s fun, quick-witted, and completely impossible to put down.

Stephanie Perkins has written some of my favorite YA contemporary books, but this thriller is a whole new side to Perkins I wasn't excepting, and it was oh so good! I absolutely adore Perkins, and her books, but, WOW! She has found her other niche with YA thrillers/murder mysteries. Normally I'm not a horror/thriller fan, but being the huge Perkins fan that I am, I had to read this one. I'm so glad I did. This book is so good!

I felt like I was watching a 90's teen thriller where it's painfully obvious who the killer is, but I'm so wrapped up into the movie, I for the life of me, can't figure it out. There's Someone Inside Your House is like playing Clue (I always knew it was Crnl. Mustard with a candlestick in the library. Just saying), normally I can figure out 'the who done it' when it comes to YA books, but I could not figure this one out! Perkins kept me guessing all the way to the end. Even then, it was still a complete shocker. I love that Perkins kept me guessing, and made it impossible for me to figure it out the killer was.

There are some well written characters in this book. It was interesting seeing how some of them went from suspects to characters I liked, and others went from characters I liked to suspects I had doubts about. I had a growing list of suspects as I read this book, and not once did I have the actual killer on my list. Perkins is an evil mastermind when it came to writing this book. Each time a murder happened I found myself crossing a suspect or suspects off my list, and adding new ones. As the story progressed, my theories on who it was, changed (you can read my theories on who it was prior to the book's release here).

I really like that the romance, and dialogue that I've loved about Perkins contemporaries was evident in this book. It may not have been at the heart of the story like her other books, but it was still there in bits and pieces. I also enjoyed the diversity with the characters. Story wise, there are some minor things that I questioned, like a flashback scene, and few other things that felt a little out of place when it came to some of the characters and some dialogue.

Over all, this was a fun, fast paced thrilling read that I finished in an afternoon. There's Someone Inside Your Side is the kind of book who's setting, characters, and entire feeling of the book makes is nearly impossible to stop reading. It may not be a terrifying horror story, but it is definitely gruesome and lives up to the creepy, thriller hype.
