REDEMPTION IS NEVER FREE

When Reece Murphy is forcibly dragged into the Rose Riders gang because of a mysterious gold coin in his possession, he vows to find the man who gave him the piece and turn him over to the gang in exchange for freedom. Never does he expect a lead to come from an aspiring female journalist. But when Reece's path crosses with Charlotte Vaughn after a botched train robbery and she mentions a promising rumor about a gunslinger from Prescott, it becomes apparent that she will be his ticket to freedom—or a noose. As the two manipulate each other for their own ends, past secrets are unearthed, reviving a decade-old quest for revenge that may be impossible to settle.

In this thrilling companion to Vengeance Road, dangerous alliances are formed, old friends meet new enemies, and the West is wilder than ever.

A thrilling romp through the Wild West, Retribution Rails was such a fun read. This book has it all; train robberies, shootouts, outlaws, plenty of danger, twists, blackmail, and two characters who want to hate each other, and fall in love with each other all at the same time. This book is one wild, thrilling read. What a fabulous companion to Vengeance Road.

There's something about the way Erin Bowman writes her stories that completely hooks me. Like Vengeance Road, once I started this book there was no stopping until I was done. It's not hard getting swept away in this series. It's so good, and highly entertaining! Bowman's story telling makes you want to beg her for one more story. In all honesty after she finished that story, I'd keep asking for more. She has a way of effortlessly infusing all the elements I love in good a story within the pages of her book. One of my favorite elements is the historical setting.

Like Vengeance Road, the setting for Retribution Rails literally springs to life. It makes you feel like you've stepped back into time, and have gotten your own personal glimpse of the wild west. It's definitely a dangerous, thrilling glimpse. The characters who call this setting home are great! They're the kind of characters you can't help but root for from the get go. You understood the forced situations they find themselves in, empathize with their choices, and want to see them break free of what's holding them back. Let's be honest, nothing Bowman's characters go through is easy, and neither is getting out of their tough situations.

I loved Charlotte and Reece. These two are stubborn as they come. Which definitely provided for some interesting stand offs between these two and some laughs from me. They're the perfect opposites in all the right ways, and compliment each other well. Charlotte is the kind of girl I absolutely love. She's strong, smart, thinks before she acts, doesn't back down, and incredibly clever. Reece kind of broke my heart at first. He's had it rough, and doesn't think he's better than the situations he's been forced into. He's so much better than he realizes. I love that it takes Charlotte for him to see that.

The character chemistry between Charlotte and Reece is fabulous! It's not a love at first sight at all. In-fact you could say these two could not stand each other, though there's definitely enough intrigue that you knew something was going to happen. Well that, and there was no way that after their first meeting, that their paths wouldn't cross again. I absolutely loved Kate and Jesse and their surprising role in this story. The scenes with them are great, and some of my favorite.

This is a fast paced, action fueled plot line that full of twists, blackmail, and the right amount of romance that slowly sizzles in the back ground. It's what I'd call an awesome read! After reading Vengeance Road I had high expectations for this book, and it did not disappoint! It's a fabulous companion, and it's own story entirely. I loved spending time back in the world of this series. Now I'm going to patiently hope that we get another book...... if not, thankfully I've got these two books to re-read.

On a side note, I absolutely love the covers for the books in this series.

When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Erin grew up in rural Connecticut, where she spent most of her childhood telling stories. It is rumored that her first words were not "Mama" or "Dada," but "Once upon a time." In middle school, when kids were going off to sleep-away camp for the summer, Erin was attending writing camp and penning short stories.
She studied web design (and minored in Creative Writing because she couldn’t stay away from stories) at the Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York. After several years working in advertising and designing websites for various brands, she moved from Boston to New Hampshire, where she now lives with her family and writes full-time.
When not writing, Erin can often be found hiking, geeking out over good typography, and obsessing over all things Harry Potter. She drinks a lot of coffee, buys far too many books, and is not terribly skilled at writing about herself in the third person.
She is represented by Sara Crowe of Harvey Klinger, and is the author of the Taken Trilogy (available from HarperTeen) and Vengeance Road (HMH Books for Young Readers).
